Homemade Face Mask for Oily Skin and Pimples

10 Homemade Masks to Reduce Pimples and Oiliness

Summer can be very challenging for people with oily skin, especially if they don’t know how to manage it properly. However, oily skin is not a disease or a problem—it’s a natural skin type and a part of who you are. To deal with it effectively, you first need to understand the root cause of oiliness. Besides, you can easily rely on homemade facial masks for your oily skin and pimples.

 Basic Causes of Skin Oiliness

There is a sebaceous gland beneath our skin that produces sebum (natural oil). When sebum is produced in excess due to certain reasons, the skin starts to feel oily. Sometimes oiliness appears all over the face, while in other cases it is concentrated in the T-zone. Excess sebum can trap dirt, dead skin cells, and bacteria, which often leads to pimples and breakouts.

There are several valid reasons behind oily skin:

Genetics:
People with naturally overactive sebaceous glands tend to have oily skin. If one or both of your parents have oily skin, there is a high chance you may have it too.

Hormonal Imbalance:
Teenagers often experience hormonal imbalances that increase oil production. During puberty, periods, and pregnancy, the hormone androgen rises, leading to excess sebum production. Conditions like PCOS and PCOD can also cause hormonal fluctuations, resulting in oily skin and acne.

Food Habits:
Your diet directly reflects on your skin. Consuming excessive amounts of oily foods, junk food, sugar, and dairy products can spike blood sugar levels, which in turn increases sebum production.

Weather and Climate:
Environmental factors influence skin conditions. Dry weather can dehydrate the skin, while humid weather increases oil production, leading to clogged pores, pimples, and small bumps.

Stress:
Stress is one of the most underrated causes of oily skin. In today’s fast-paced life, people often ignore mental well-being. However, stress can significantly impact both your skin and hair health.

If you understand the root cause, it becomes easier to manage oiliness effectively. Along with that, I will share some of my personally tested homemade face masks that work well for reducing oil and acne.

Natural Ayurvedic ingredients are highly effective, but many people are unaware of how to use them correctly for specific skin concerns.

5 Homemade Face Masks for Oily Skin and Acne

1. Multani Mitti Face Mask

This may sound like a common remedy, but it is highly effective if used consistently. I personally use Multani Mitti during summers in West Bengal’s humid climate, and it works like magic. It not only reduces oiliness but also helps dry out acne.

Process:
Take plain Multani Mitti and mix it with water. If available, you can use coconut water for better results. Cleanse your face with a mild cleanser or raw milk and keep your skin slightly damp. Apply the mask evenly and leave it for 15 minutes until dry. Wash it off and follow with a moisturizer. Use it 2–3 times a week.

2. Neem Face Mask

Neem is known for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. When combined with Tulsi, it becomes even more effective for treating acne and oiliness.

Process:
Take fresh Neem and Tulsi leaves and grind them into a paste. Add one tablespoon of Multani Mitti and a little water. Apply it all over your face or use it as a spot treatment on pimples. This mask is highly effective for both oil control and acne reduction.

3. Classic Ubtan

Ubtan is a traditional remedy used for cleansing, detoxifying, and achieving smooth, glowing skin.

Ingredients Benefits:

  • Besan (Gram Flour): Helps remove oil, dirt, and dead skin cells
  • Turmeric: Has antibacterial properties and reduces acne and marks
  • Curd: Contains lactic acid, which gently exfoliates and smoothens the skin

Process:
Take 1 teaspoon of besan, 1 teaspoon of curd, and a pinch of turmeric. Mix well and add water if needed. Apply evenly, leave it for 15 minutes, and rinse off. Follow with a moisturizer.

4. Tea Tree Oil Mask

Tea tree oil has strong antifungal and antibacterial properties. It helps control excess sebum, reduce acne, and calm inflamed skin.

Process:
Mix 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel with ½ teaspoon of rose water (preferably organic) and 2 drops of tea tree oil. Apply to clean, dry skin. Leave it for 5 minutes and wash it off.

5. Sandalwood Face Mask

Sandalwood has been used in skincare for thousands of years due to its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. It is highly beneficial for acne-prone skin and helps control excess oil.

Process:
Take 1 teaspoon of sandalwood paste and ½ teaspoon of aloe vera gel. Mix well and apply either on the entire face or as a spot treatment for pimples and dark spots
